Visas

EU nationals do not require any visas. Nationals of Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the USA can stay for 90 days visa-free. Other nationalities need a visa.

Attractions

Travel/Roads

Road: Driving is on the right hand side of the road and overtake on the left.
Driving Age: 17
Seat belts: It is illegal not to wear a seat belt both in the front and back.

More Information:
When driving in Portugal you must carry the following:
1) Driving Licence
2) The Vehicle’s Log Book or Rental Contract
3) Proof of Insurance
4) MOT Certificate (if appropriate)
5) The vehicle must have a red warning triangle in case of emergency. This is placed at the rear of the car in case of an accident or breakdown.

There are speed limits for drivers with less than 12 months licence. Contact Portuguese tourist office for more info.

Generally give way to trams either when they overtake or if they approach you from the right. The roads can be three lanes wide and middle lane is used for overtaking from either side. Children under 12 years should not travel in the front seat of a vehicle.

If possible then the car must be parked in the same direction as the traffic. If parked illegally, the car can be immobilised. Beware it is illegal to carry spare fuel in Portugal.
